Shop the Model Homes

Many of you may not be familiar with November Design Group. They are a local company, owned by two very talented women, who design and stage model homes for builders all over the country.

Now you have the opportunity to take advantage of their proximity – and their extra inventory.

I’d like to introduce you to the November Design Shop. It is your chance to purchase fine furniture at prices far below what it’s worth. After they furnish a model home (which they’ve done over 800 times!) they often bring back items that didn’t quite fit. While most of the furniture in their showroom has been on display in model homes, some is new from the manufacturer and hasn’t even been removed from its original packaging.

You can go online to their website www.NovemberDesign.com and click on the Clearance Shop button. There you can view all their inventory or schedule an appointment to go visit their showroom in person.

So take advantage of this great opportunity to access model home furniture at amazing prices – right in your back yard!

JAYA Warehouse Sale

Rumor has it that Jaya is going to be having a warehouse sale from November 6th thru the 8th. While you may have visited their store, located at 902 N. Lamar (at 9th Street), many of you may not know that they also have a warehouse full of treasures, located just off 5th Street (at Pressler). The warehouse holds about ten times the product you can find at their retail space.

For those of you not familiar with Jaya – if you like Four Hands, you’ll love Jaya. Owners, David and Jackie Hook met in the principality of Liechtenstein while they were individually traveling the world. After a collective two decades of nonstop travel, David (a New Zealander) and Jackie (a native Texan) made Austin their home.

Their passion for travel and their entrepreneurial spirit attracted them to the import business; and what began as a small wholesale venture quickly evolved into three flourishing boutique furniture and home décor stores. They established Jaya in 1996 in Austin and have since opened Jaya Houston and Jaya Dallas.

David and Jackie’s wanderlust has taken them through more than 50 countries. Exciting finds from their encounters with other cultures and wildlife fill their stores.

Stay tuned for more details on the sale, including hours and directions!

West Elm

Since so many folks in this neck of the woods came from California, they are familiar with West Elm. But for those who are native, this might be a new discovery for you.
West Elm is somewhere between Ikea and Z Gallerie - both with cleaner lines and more modern pieces. Those of you who are morphing to a more contemporary look in your homes will love to hop on their website and poke around: www.WestElm.com.

If you still need to hands-on experience when you're out shopping, here are a few of my favorite stores in Austin for finding a little more modern look at a modest budget:
- Urban Living
- Collectic Home
- Eurway
- Copenhagen
- Z Gallerie
These will offer a good cross section from urban loft to zen to full blown contemporary. Most are still running pretty good sales on the heels of the downturn last year. With economic predictions looking better, expect prices to start holding firm again in the next few months.

Reduce, Reuse, Recylce - Offices

Many of you have home offices and are on the lookout for inexpensive pieces that are not your typical "some assembly required", knock-down furniture.
Here is a great solution - Tops Furniture.
With three locations in Austin, they buy used office furniture from companies moving or downsizing. They have a wonderful array of real hardwood desks, file cabinets, tables, chairs - all that you could imagine. They even have more contemporary pieces such as glass topped bankers' desks. And at a fraction of the price.
So not only can you obtain quality office furniture for your home, you can also feel good about 'recycling' these pieces.
To compliment your new desk, they can order high end ergonomic desk chairs at a fraction of the price you'll pay elsewhere.
And as an added bonus, they have a whole room of office supplies for sale. Post it notes, staples, paper clips, 3 hole punches - all top quality for pennies on the dollar.
Check out the website for their locations: www.topstexas.com

Modern Marvels

There seems to be a resurgence of interest in the clean lines of contemporary furniture. After having shopped around, I was happy to stumble across Modern Line Furniture. Their shopping website not only had the best selection, the prices are phenomenal. The website is www.ModernLineFurniture.com.

They have a great selection of 'ready ship' pieces that arrive in two or three weeks, as opposed to the twelve week time lines seen elsewhere.

Look at this site for all things modern - whether it's sectionals, tables, bars, or accessories. And to top it all off, the best customer service I've seen from an online store in a long while.

Happy Shopping!

Great Game Rooms

In the month of June everyone's attention is on the Man Cave.

If you have been looking to add a game room or design a home pub or even just add a pool table, I suggest you take a look at the Billiard Factory.

Not only do they carry a great assortment of products, they have wonderful services to help you pull it all together like their free room planner software.

You should especially note their Father's Day special this month - where one lucky dad will win the grand prize of a FREE Man Cave - otherwise known as a fully outfitted game room.

Check them out for great selection!

Anyone in the market for cabinet pulls or door handles should take a look at this - a mobile decorative hardware store! They come to you!
With over 2000 choices for cabinet hardware , they bring the entire showroom to your home. This allows you to pick hardware in the actual space where it will be used. All the knobs and pulls can be taken off their boards and held to the cabinet so you can really see what they are going to look like. It takes all of the fear out of choosing.

Their collection ranges from sleek and contemporary to traditional; from glass and ceramic to metal. It's a stress free solution for interior and exterior door handles, cabinet pulls and knobs.

The price point is moderate to high end, depending on the product - most hardware items are in the $8 to $14 range each. They work on an appointment basis and it takes about an hour to do a kitchen and about 3-4 hours to specify the hardware for a full house.

Push Pull Open Close charges a $40 an hour consultation fee that will rebate into the cost of your hardware if you purchase from them. What a great way to simplify your decision process!

Don't Dismiss Dillards!

With all the specialty furniture stores around town, it's easy to pass on shopping at the good old fashion department stores. But a recent walk through the furniure section at Dillards revealed some of the best sales and pricing I've seen lately.

The Dillard's at Lakeline Mall and Barton Creek carry a pretty wide selection of furniture for a department store. While you can find lot of sales listed online (http://www.dillards.com/) there were additional savings in store on overstock items. Especially for sofas and side chairs.

It's worth a trip in to see what you can find - I've stumbled across leather 'barrel back' chairs for around $175 apiece. That's an incredible deal. Go and see what you can uncover...

Happy shopping!
